Quality & ESG

Quality, safety and responsibility, built into the work

How Insula manages quality, health and safety, environmental impact and the people and trades who build our systems.

Quality management

ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System

Insula is currently implementing a Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001:2015 requirements.

The system is being developed to support the design, prototyping and manufacture of modular container systems, rapid-deployment infrastructure, trailering systems, alternative-power platforms and custom industrial solutions.

Our Quality Management System focuses on

  1. 01

    Requirements Review

Customer, technical, regulatory and project requirements are reviewed before work proceeds.

  2. 02

    Design & Drawing Control

Engineering drawings, specifications and revisions are controlled so teams work from current, approved information.

  3. 03

    Supplier & Procurement Controls

Purchased components and subcontracted services are reviewed against project requirements.

  4. 04

    Inspection & Verification

Fabricated and assembled components are checked against drawings, specifications and defined project requirements.

  5. 05

    Non-Conformance & Corrective Action

Issues are documented, reviewed and corrected, with lessons incorporated into future work.

  6. 06

    Document Control

Controlled documents are identified by revision and effective date, with obsolete versions removed from active use.

  7. 07

    Continuous Improvement

Management reviews performance, corrective actions, project lessons and changing customer requirements to improve processes over time.

Health, safety & environment

Safety is an operating requirement

Insula's HSE program applies to employees, temporary workers, contractors, visitors and work performed at the Langton manufacturing facility, the Delhi office, customer sites, yards, delivery locations and other Insula-controlled work areas.

Stop-work principle

"No production, schedule or cost objective takes priority over controlling an unacceptable risk to people or the environment."
Insula Health, Safety & Environment Policy

Built around practical risk management

  • Hazard identification before work begins
  • Application of the hierarchy of controls
  • Worker training, supervision and appropriate PPE
  • Safe maintenance and operation of tools, machinery, vehicles and lifting equipment
  • Reporting and investigation of incidents and near misses
  • Corrective-action tracking
  • Worker participation in safety improvement
  • Ongoing inspections, training and management review

These principles are set out in Insula's current HSE policy.

Environmental responsibility

Practical environmental management through design and operations

Insula's environmental approach is based on preventing pollution, reducing waste, using resources efficiently and considering durable, repairable and reusable solutions during design and procurement.

Waste Reduction & Recycling

Metals, cardboard, wood, batteries, electronics and other suitable materials are segregated and recycled where practical.

Spill Prevention & Response

Fuels, oils, paints, solvents and chemicals are stored and managed to reduce spill and release risks.

Responsible Waste Management

Hazardous and liquid wastes are directed through appropriate disposal or recycling channels.

Resource Efficiency

Energy, water and materials are used efficiently where practical.

Durability & Reuse

Durable, repairable and reusable solutions are considered during design and procurement.

Site Protection

Customer sites, land, drainage systems and waterways are considered during delivery, installation and servicing.

Continuous improvement

Learn. Correct. Improve.

Insula uses workplace observations, inspections, project reviews and corrective actions to identify deficiencies and improvement opportunities. Those lessons are incorporated into our procedures.

Management periodically reviews

  • HSE performance
  • Incidents and near misses
  • Corrective actions
  • Training requirements
  • Operational changes
  • Customer requirements
  • Project lessons learned

Contractor & trade management

Qualified specialist support

Insula works with qualified subcontractors and specialist trades where projects require disciplines such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, controls or other technical services.

Contractors performing higher-risk work may be required to provide evidence of training, insurance, permits, safe-work procedures or other project documentation before work begins.

Training & competency

Trained for the task

Insula's HSE framework requires orientation and task-specific training appropriate to the work. Records of required training and qualifications are maintained.

Depending on the project, training may include

  • WHMIS
  • PPE
  • Equipment operation
  • Lifting
  • Fall protection
  • Lockout
  • First aid
  • Fire safety
  • Electrical safety
  • Hot work
  • Spill response
  • Customer and site-specific requirements
